Finally, a scholarly resource on the vast changes and effets of the digital age and its relation to the entertainment industry. It's funny, when we think of "experts of the industry" when it comes to movies and shows, and to an extent books and movies, it is often teh critics or the columnists or media personalities that come to mind. It's hard to believe that there are college level classes dedicated to the academic study of these medium's of entertainment. Consult the jacket photograph of Joel Waldfogel and you get the perfect depiction of a college professor. Waldfogel, the Frederick R. Kappel Chair at the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management, weaves a comprehensive examination of just how dynamic the impact of technology and the digital renaissance has on the modern industries. He offers some very detailed evidence, though there are area's of the data collected that are not as concrete as we may like, Waldfogel is sure to point out these incongruities ahead of time. I find the book a great balance of evidence-based rhetoric and a hopeful outlook on the whole situation and some very thought-provoking ideas and solutions to long-term issues that may arise. Highly recommend to the academic's and movie nerd's alike.
