About the Author
Konami Kanata was born on July 3, 1958, in Nagano, Japan. A veteran manga artist Konami made her professional debut in 1982 with the serialized comic Petit Cat Jam-Jam for Kodansha's semenal shoujo manga magazine NakaYoshi. The daughter of an elementary school teacher, most of Konami's stories are for readers of all ages making her one of the most accessible artists in recent history.In her nearly thirty year career, Konami has penned more than a dozen comic series, with the majority of them focusing on cats and pets. Konami is well regarded within the pet-manga community for her keen sense of cat ecology. Her ability to observe and render feline behavior has earned her respect from the Japanese manga community as a whole. My seven-year-old is an earlier reader, but finding things that draw her in and make her really excited about a series can be a bit of a challenge. Our local librarian suggested a Chi book to her though and she just fell in love and laughed and laughed through the book.Unfortunately the library only had a few, so enter Amazon! I have gotten her a new Chi's Sweet Home volume each month (which worked out much cheaper than buying them individually) for the past four months and she is so thrilled with every single one, reading them again and again. The larger size also works well for her and the art style really captivates her.Now she has started looking into other manga and comics as well as a wider array of animal centric series. All thanks to this little kitty's appeal. :)
I received recommendations for this book from a librarian group online, and they were right on. My 9-year-old son loves to be read to and to make up his own stories, but reading independently is still hard for him due to learning disorders. That being said, he ADORED the Chi series--there are four volumes. He loved the drawings, the expressions on the cats' faces, and the action and suspense in the stories. While he was reading these books, I never had to remind him to do his daily reading. In fact, I had to convince him to stop reading to get to his other homework and dinner and bedtime.Highly recommended. Oh, this mom read and loved them, too.
I love Chi's story. It's a must read for anyone that loves cats. And, she's so adorable that even if you're not into cats, you'll fall in love with her anyway.
